Reflect on your field experience. What did you do well? What went according to plans? What needed to be changed? How would you do this differently next time? What are your personal strengths? What areas do you want to grow as a teacher?
Overall my field experience was rewarding. I had some of this lesson last year when I was a long term substitute, but when students fell asleep during the power point, I knew it had to be revamped. I revised it to include a hands on lab and a group presentation project. So compared to last year that was just a lecture and power point, I believe that I accomplished a more multi-modality learning structure as well as a multiple layered assessment.
My one regret I have is that my website should include all the micro lessons and labs for the year, so that students have a reference when they miss out on a tactile instruction. This just takes time, so I have committed to posting a new video once a week for the duration of the school year. (hold me to this blog readers!)
My personal strengths are my past experiences in the Biology and Medical Fields; I think I do an exceptional job of relating these activities to "real life" value. However, to grow as an educator, I also need to work on examples in other subjects to promote crossover learning. (Art, history, mechanics) For me to do this, I need to really get in touch with my creative side. Funny thing....my creative side doesn't work well on a time line, so when I do launch into that creative key, aha moment, I need to write it down and save it. I'm getting better about this.....but it is a process. "Trust the process!" my mentor said to me on many occasions.
In closing......I'm thankful. I'm thankful for the opportunity that Kastner Intermediate gave me to grow as an educator and I'm thankful to all the encouraging parents, staff, and students who make my job such a JOY!
